UMD Extension 4-H youth development and finance educators have just teamed up to offer Smart Cents, a live, 10 hour personal finance program for teens conducted over Zoom. The program also offers a family component to spark conversation about money and values.

Why a youth financial literacy program? Young people are particularly hard hit by debt. Money management skills are important to be empowered and confident about the future.

The overall goal of the Smart Cents program is to increase the ability of youth to make informed decisions about financial health while strengthening their use of social and emotional skills necessary for success as they grow into responsible adults. Each of the ten lessons last up to one hour and are facilitated using the experiential learning model of experience, share, process, generalize, and apply. Youth will learn the skills of:

    • Financial Decision Making
    • Spending and Saving
    • Credit and Debt
    • Employment and Income

This program is now full. Please register for the upcoming session, Smart Cents Boot Camp for Teens at https://go.umd.edu/smartcentsBC
