What is the Small Group Initiative?
The Small Group Initiative is a two-month program where individuals meet on a weekly basis for 90 minutes to discuss their financial goals. Past members have set goals to pay off credit card debt, create a workable spending plan, and establish an emergency savings account with recurring deposits. Moreover, group facilitators are reviewed and approved by the Maryland CASH Academy for experience in delivering objective information on personal finance issues.

What are the benefits of participating in the Small Group Initiative?
The small group serves as a place for accountability, encouragement, and unbiased financial information. Success stories include, but are not limited to, members: paying off $1,000 in credit card debt, increasing contributions to workplace retirement accounts, opening & regularly funding an emergency savings account, opening a self-directed retirement account, creating a workable and flexible spending plan, and increasing confidence and control over finances.

When and where do small group members meet?
Small groups will convene across Baltimore City, Howard County, Montgomery County and via tele-seminar. Small group meeting times and locations will be selected based on convenience to all group members. Each meeting will last no longer than 90 minutes.

What do small group members do as part of the initiative?
Small group members engage in a variety of activities including, but not limited to: setting SMART financial goals, tracking income and spending, creating a spending plan, developing a vision board, accessing and reviewing a free credit report, completing a financial journal exercise, and regularly discussing challenges and opportunities.

What does it cost to participate?
There is no cost to participate in the Small Group Initiative.

How do I become a part of a small group?
To be considered for the Small Group Initiative, you must complete an online application. The application to participate will become available during the next recruitment period. Stay tuned for details!
