    • Basic money management
    • How to better manage bills
    • Spending on family needs, not wants
    • How can I have a budget when I have no money?
    • How to eliminate, postpone or reduce expenses
    • Short term solutions to emergency situations
    • Prioritizing bills and knowing what bills I have to pay first
    • Spending your tax refund on things you need


    This class is provided by: Alfred Thompson

    Mr. Thompson is the Community Service Referral Coordinator for the City of Rockville. He has seven years of experience teaching Money Management. He also has an extensive background in parenting education and mental health counseling.

    With assistance from APG Federal Credit Union, we’re offering a series of FREE workshops on important financial topics.


    The workshops will be held multiple times over an eight-week period during the fall 2014 semester.


    You may pick the topics that most interest you, but we strongly suggest you attend as many as possible.

    Description: The way we manage our credit and debt affects how much we pay for credit (i.e. interest rates), our ability to be qualified for more credit, and even employment opportunities and how much we pay for car insurance.

    In this presentation, you will learn about:
    • Student loan borrower's rights and responsibilities
    • Navigating the loan process
    • Tips on managing your finances, and
    • Understanding credit reports and scores.
    This class is provided by the Maryland CASH Campaign and CAFE Montgomery MD.

    The Maryland CASH (Creating Assets, Savings, and Hope) Campaign™: is a state-wide network of organizations that promote financial stability for working families. Our coalition includes Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) partners that provide free tax preparation services, promote access to high-quality financial services, and offer financial education and coaching.

    The Coalition for the Advancement of Financial Education, also known as CAFE Montgomery MD, promotes and delivers high quality financial education to County residents of all ages, communities and ethnic groups. CAFE Montgomery MD's goal is to provide the necessary tools for making informed decisions about saving, spending, borrowing and managing credit.

    This is an educational workshop that will teach you how to create and start using a budget to help manage your finances. You will learn basic
    money management and budgeting skills, as well as receiving assistance setting up your personal budget. Ongoing budget coaching is available to
    keep you and your budget on track after attending the workshop. Bring a copy of your current bills with you to the workshop.
