    Money Matters

     

    Description: This interactive workshop, taught in Spanish, will leave participants prepared to:


    • Track daily spending habits
    • Prepare a personal spending plan or budget to estimate monthly income and expenses
    • Identify ways to decrease spending
    • Identify possible ways to increase income
    • Identify budgeting tools that will help you manage your bills
    • List and prioritize financial goals
    • Recognize how to create a plan to achieve financial goals

    This class is taught in Spanish and provided by Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington . For more than 80 years, families, children and adults in need of help and hope have been able to turn to Catholic Charities to find comprehensive, caring and competent  support. With 63 programs working in 48 locations across the District of Columbia and the surrounding Maryland counties, Catholic Charities is uniquely positioned to help families overcome poverty and isolation and empower those they serve to live self-sufficient and independent lives.

    Description: The way we manage our credit and debt affects how much we pay for credit (i.e. interest rates), our ability to be qualified for more credit, and even employment opportunities and how much we pay for car insurance.

    Participants will learn:
    -All about credit scores
    -How to get a credit report
    -How to rebuild credit
    -How to choose loan products
    -Ways to avoid predatory loans, as well as
    -How to manage debt.

    A Spanish translator will be available during this presentation.

    This class is provided by:

    One hundred years ago a group of caring community members came together to help those who were most in need. This particular group called themselves the Social Services League, and established their tradition of "Neighbors Helping Neighbors." 

    In 1959, the organization's name was changed to Family Services Agency. To meet the needs of the ever-changing Montgomery County population, Family Services has expanded and now houses 14 different programs! Today, Family Services is still committed to making a long-lasting impact on families.Through its innovative early childhood, educational, and behavioral health programs, Family Services makes a difference in the community.

    Description: The Federal Trade Commission reports that nearly 9 million Americans have their identities stolen every year. Don’t be one of these statistics. Learn how you can better protect your information and ultimately, your identity.

    Participants will learn:
    -Ways to make smart consumer choices, whether buying at thrift stores, shopping for a car, household items,  groceries or saving money, and
    -How to avoid common consumer scams such as ID
    Theft, Work at Home scams, Credit Repair scams and more.
