    Description: Spending wisely, budgeting, planning your income & expenses…whatever you call it, spending wisely is about making the most of your income, expenses, and savings.

    Participants will learn:
    -How to assess your money values/habits
    -Participants will learn how to create a Spending Plan
    -Set financial goals, manage banking accounts
    with financial institutions, and
    -Financial records organization and tips to save money.

    One hundred years ago a group of caring community members came together to help those who were most in need. This particular group called themselves the Social Services League, and established their tradition of "Neighbors Helping Neighbors."  

    In 1959, the organization's name was changed to Family Services Agency. To meet the needs of the ever-changing Montgomery County population, Family Services has expanded and now houses 14 different programs! Today, Family Services is still committed to making a long-lasting impact on families.Through its innovative early childhood, educational, and behavioral health programs, Family Services makes a difference in the community.

    This class will be taught by Alvin Carlos, a Financial Planner and Managing Partner of District Capital Management, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at University of Maryland University College. Alvin holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation – the most respected and recognized investment designation in the world. He has passed the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ exam, and has a Master’s degree in International Relations from SAIS-Johns Hopkins.

    Description: The way we manage our credit and debt affects how much we pay for credit (i.e. interest rates), our ability to be qualified for more credit, and even employment opportunities and how much we pay for car insurance.

    Participants will learn:
    -All about credit scores
    -How to get a credit report
    -How to rebuild credit
    -How to choose loan products
    -Ways to avoid predatory loans, as well as
    -How to manage debt.
